Description:
New edition of Alan Stewart's bestselling debut memoir.
Wildlife Detective is an insightful and humorous account of over forty years policing crime committed against wildlife – deer and salmon poaching, the poisoning of rare birds, egg collecting, cruelty, the taking of freshwater pearl mussels and much more. Inadequacies of earlier legislation are explained as is the painstaking collection of evidence, all interspersed with hilarious accounts of criminals outfoxed, cops wild with frustration and the community’s appreciation of their environment and its wildlife.
A retired police inspector, Alan Stewart specialised in poaching cases in the 1960s and 70s. Most of his service from 1980 to 1993 was in CID in Perth and Drugs Branch at Force HQ. He was appointed Force Wildlife Liaison Officer in 1993. He lives in Perthshire with his wife Jan, two dogs and 20 domestic ducks. Alan Stewart was featured as one of BBC Scotland’s Wildlife Detectives.
