Description:
With 7,500 species, water mites form one of the most species-rich groups in freshwater. They occur in almost every type of freshwater, from springs, streams, ponds and lakes to subterranean habitats. Two genera even occur in the marine littoral. Since the publication of Dave Cook’s Water mite genera and subgenera in 1974, the number of known genera and subgenera has increased substantially, especially in the southern hemisphere. This book makes it possible to identify every family, subfamily, genus and subgenus in the world. Updates on distribution and habitat are given for each genus and subgenus.
