However, reports of findings from existing monitoring programs have so far only been available regionally. For the first time, the atlas brings together the distribution data of all 184 native butterfly and 24 Burnet moth species to form a coherent picture of their overall distribution, thus providing an effective tool for their protection. An introduction describes the butterflies' lifestyles and their value for ecosystems and nature conservation and provides insights into monitoring. Detailed portraits and vivid images present the species, including their protection and endangered status, and show their distribution in mostly full-page maps.
