Text Japanese with diagnoses and figure captions in English. Identification of 450 species of Japanese thrips (Thysanoptera), a few of which are important pest species. Includes colour photos of living specimens and b/w photos of microscope slide preparations, illustrating both whole insects and important structural detail. Species accounts, one per page, include c. 10 detailed photographic illustrations, showing important features such as the surface structure of the epidermis and the arrangement of hairs. Focus stacking technology has been used in preparation of the micrographs. The 319 colour photographs of living specimens for 189 species clearly show the characteristics of families, subfamilies, and genera. Species accounts provide informatin on morphology, distribution, and ecology. Introductory chapters include information on classification, ecology, research history, distribution, collection, and specimen preparation.
