The first volume in this new series presents a catalogue of the Noctuoidea in the Vartian collection, containing the families Notodontidae, Nolidae, Erebidae (Catocalinae, Ophiderinae, Lymantriinae and Arctiinae) and the Noctuidae (sensu stricto), the trifine noctuids. An encyclopedia and identification guide to the western and Central Asiatic fauna with special reference to Iran and Afghanistan. First section bilingual (English/German), introducing Eva Vartian and her lepidopterological activity. The scientific part comprises the annotated list of the type-material, the revised checklist of the Noctuoidea collection (3009 species-level taxa belonging to 673 genera), life-size colour images of all taxa, descriptions of 10 new species and a new subspecies.
This volume will serve as a handbook for taxonomic and faunistic studies of western and Central Asia
