Description:
Reprinted from The Quarterly Journal of Microscopical Science, Vol. 47. Appendix 'On the movements of the Parapodia of Peripatus, Millipedes, and Centipdes'. Sir Edwin Ray Lankester (1847-1929) was the third Director of the British Museum (Natural History). Lankester was concerned that his work on the Arthropoda published in the 10th edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica had been overlooked by leading naturalists of the day such as A.S. Packard and G.H. Carpenter, stating 'I hope that in their present form these articles will not fail to come under the notice of zoologists'. The Appendix includes information not published in the Encyclopaedia Britannica
