Description:
First Cheap Edition (this work was first published in 2 vols, Longmans, Green & Co., 1899). Winston Churchill's history of Lord Kitchener's campaign in Anglo-Egyptian Sudan (1896-1899). Churchill fought in the campaign, at the battle of Omdurman (1898), and was also war correspondent for the Telegraph. This war would see many technological developments, including the use of telegraphy, military railways, and the newly developed Maxim gun, which would all later be employed to devastating effect in the Great War. Churchill's account remains an important and controversial work, and a fascinating insight into the young man who would one day become Britain's prime minister.
