Second issue, published in Heinemann's 'Great Lives and Events' series. (The first issue was published in 1890 by Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner & Co). Heinemann bought the remaining stock (1000 sets of the original 1890 edition having been originally printed) and reissued the original sheets with half-title and title leaves cancelled and replaced by a section of 4 leaves (1-2 publisher's adverts; 3 half-title with author's works on verso; 4 title with imprint note on verso). This second issue is scarcer than the original.

8vo, orig. cloth, rubbed, corners bumped, spine slightly faded with light vertical crease. Old water stain to top inner corner of frontis, not affecting the portrait; front inner hinge cracked; contents page chipped to outer margin; some foxing to endpapers. Owner's name and ownership stamp to endpaper. A good copy of a scarce title.
