Description:
First edition. Scarce. A history of the Moodie family, formerly Lairds of Melsetter, Orkney, and the role they played in the colonization of South Africa. Chapters of this book are set principally in the nineteenth century, and Captain Benjamin Moodie's pioneering scheme in 1817 from Scotland to the Cape, and the Moodie Trek from the Orange Free State to Eastern Rhodesia in 1892, receive special consideration. But the family's fortunes are traced from the distant mist of the fifteenth century right up to the emergence of the present-day pattern of its descendants in Southern Africa.
