The Genera of British Moths
- Publisher : T.J. Allman
- Published In : London
- Illustrations : col frontis, 62 hand-coloured plates
Description:
Illustrated with a series of picturesque plates exhibiting insects in their different stages, with the caterpillars and the plants on which they are generally found. The quality of the hand-colouring varies in this work - the first issue, published by Paul Jerrard (1859) has both moths and floral backgrounds finely coloured and highly finished. The later T.J. Allman issues (such as this one) are not so highly finished; some have backgrounds uncoloured, or only partially coloured. This copy is relatively well coloured, with the floral backgrounds partly coloured.
Condition
Imp. 8vo, orig. dec. cloth (spine slightly faded), gt, aeg, re-cased with new endpapers, some light wear to extremities. Occasional foxing/spotting. A very good copy.
