Biography of Edward Augustus Bowles (1865-1954), a distinguished horticulturist. The original first edition together with the revised 2nd edition, the latter includes three additional chapters on the restoration of the gardens.
Condition
Vg in d/w. From the library of Keith Hyatt (d. 2021), acarologist at the Natural History Museum, London, and prominent member of the London Natural History Society, with his signature to endpaper. Hyatt's father, A.R. Hyatt and uncle were among the 'Bowles Boys', a group of local boys who were invited by Bowles to help and play in the garden at Myddelton House.
Both copies Inscribed by author to Hyatt with 'thanks for the many artefacts you donated to the Myddelton Archive'. Book review of the first edition pasted to endpaper. Photocopies and one orginal newspaper article about Bowles from ‘The Times’ loosely inserted.
