Description:
2nd complete edition. Lionel Gilbert Ollyett Woodhouse (1888 -1965) was an English civil servant and naturalist. This edition contains additional information on the immature stages of 41 species not previously known, and seven additional plates showing male genitalia. This work is the result of Woodhouse's 38 years in the Survey Department of the Government of Ceylon, where he rose to the position of 18th Surveyor General. His post gave him unparalleled access to the island’s diverse butterfly populations, making this a seminal work in the field of Lepidoptera study in the region.
Condition
Good. A few small worm holes to covers. Some marginal worming to endpapers and last few plates. Light waterstain to corner of title page and first few pages. Marginal tears, some with old tape marks, to a number of leaves (all repaired with archive tape). Torn and repaired d/w (with loss to head and foot of spine) in protective plastic sleeve
