Description:
New [second] edition, revised and augmented by Richard Bowdler Sharpe (1847-1909). Greatly enlarged from the unillustrated first edition of 1867. Sharpe rewrote much of the original text, and identified several new species. Also included in this edition are 12 fine hand-coloured lithographic plates by the famous Dutch bird illustrator John Gerrard Keulemans (1842-1912). There is a gap in pagination between pages 856 and 867 (end of text and beginning of index) - this is the case in all copies.
