Annotated, with numerous additions, by A.S. Hutchinson. First edition. Corrigenda slip tipped in at front. Frederick Whitlock (1850-1953), was an English ornithologist and oologist. He started work as a bank cashier near Nottingham, and later fled to Australia after robbing the safe! Following his subsequent arrest and conviction in England, he returned to Western Australia, and is noted for his many expeditions to remote areas to study and collect birds and their eggs.
