Description:
Scarce. Gregory Macalister Mathews (1876-1949) was an Australian-born ornithologist who spent much of his later life in England. His passion for Australian birds led Matthews to publish many key works in the field of Australian ornithology, including the monumental, 'The Birds of Australia' (1910-1927), published in 12 volumes, in an edition of only 225 numbered copies. The work included five supplements. Supplements IV and V being the Bibliography of the Birds of Australia. The Bibliography was also bound separately by the author for presentation and remains a useful reference work. It consists of biographical notices of C. Davies Sherborn and Charles Wallace Richmond with portraits, followed by bibliographical information about key works and biographical notes on authors and collectors.
