Description:
Slipper orchids (Paphiopedilum spp) are among Borneo's most spectacular and instantly recognizable plants. The island has a dozen species, including the sensational Paphiopedilum rothschildianum and P. sanderianum, the petals spreading to 30cm across in the former and up to a metre long in the latter. This book is a readable account that updates knowledge of the taxonomy, distribution, ecology and biology of these extraordinary plants, and includes superb photographs and paintings. Nearly all of the Bornean species are naturally rare in the wild, and sadly some are now threatened with extinction unless their habitats can be better protected.
