A new edition published after the author's death, with additional material and illustrations. This book was first published in 1791 and partly relates to the scenery of the New Forest, Hampshire. William Gilpin (1724-1804), an English artist, Anglican cleric, schoolmaster and travel writer, was one of the originators of the idea of the 'picturesque'.
Condition
2 vols bound in 1, 8vo, later half leather, marbled boards, worn and chipped to foot of spine/rear joint. Some foxing to plates, mostly to margins. Recent owner's attractive bookplate. Good.
