Text French and German. This third, updated edition highlights the recent and significant changes in the fish fauna present in Swiss waters. Human activities leisure, transport and trade have caused changes in the distribution of native species and the proliferation of non-native species. Genetic stuides have also highlighted or confirmed the existence of new species.

Data is based on 69,817 records from 8,797 bodies of water. These data are mainly from sampling carried out as part of fisheries management. Information from museum records is also included. General information on distribution and status is given for each taxon.

A separate supplementary booklet acting as an identification guide is also included. This guide can be used in the field to identify most of the fish and cyclostomes of Switzerland. The illustrations allow both the beginner and the experienced naturalist to identify the species.
