The British and Irish Orthoptera consist of a relatively small number of large and often conspicuous species, all can with experience, be identified in the field. This identification guide covers the 28 native breeding species which occur in Britain north of a line roughly from north Gloucestershire, through to the Suffolk/Essex border and all of Wales, Scotland and Ireland. These are made up of ten bush-crickets (Tettigoniidae),Scaly Cricket (Mogoplistidae), all three British species of groundhopper (Tetrigidae), ten grasshoppers (Acrididae) and all four British species of earwig (Dermaptera).
