Description:
Text German/English. The broomrapes (Orobanche) with their colourful flowers (from light yellow or violet, to bright red) can be just as attractive as the better known orchids. Many species are very variable in their appearance and flower colour. The individual speces are mostly difficult to identify and errors in determination are common. To date there is no work which covers all European species of Orobanche, with colour photos, distribution maps and drawings. This book enables quick and easy identification of all species by means of keys, drawings of the side view of the flower and the stamens and the stigma, as well as reference to the distribution. In addition, five colour illustrations per species aids identification (habitus / location, inflorescence, cut-out of the inflorescence, side view of flower and front view of a single flower). Chapters on the systematics, taxonomy and nomenclature of broomrapes, pollination, germination and reproduction, morphology, host plants, ecology, distribution, threats and conservation, adventitious occurrences, damage to crops and control. Keys to and descriptions of all Central and Northern European species. Glossary of technical terms in German, English and Dutch.
