Text bilingual English/German. A fine illustrated monograph of the genus Orchis, with watercolours by plant morphologist and orchid researcher, Erich Nelson. Published posthumously, the watercolours had been completed at the time of the author's death in 1980, but the text had not been started. A foundation set up in Nelson's name produced a text volume, which was finally published, together with superb colour reproductions of the original watercolours, over 20 years later. In addition to scientific texts on the genus by D. Moser, A. Kocyan and A. Widmer, there is an appreciation of the scientific and artistic oeuvre of E. Nelson, and a biography. Also included is an edited autobiography of the author's widow, Gerda Nelson.
