New introduction by British-American anthropologist Montague Francis Ashley-Montagu (1905-1999). A set of six important 'Working Men's Lectures' lectures were given by Huxley in 1862. They were delivered extemporaneously and taken down by a shorthand writer and published as a series of leaflets and as a book in 1863. The six lectures are: The Present Condition of Organic Nature; The Past Condition of Organic Nature; The Method by which the Causes of the Present and Past conditions of Organic Nature are to be Discovered.- The Origination of Living Beings; The Perpetuation of Living Beings, Hereditary Transmission and Variation; The Conditions of Existence as affecting the Perpetuation of Living Beings; and A Critical Examination of the Position of Mr. Darwin's Work in relation to the complete Theory of the Causes of the Phenomena of Organic Nature.
