Description:

Original edition. First course: On the Nature of Light; Second course: On Light as a Means of Investigation; Third course: On the Beneficial Effects of Light. George Gabriel Stokes (1819–1903), British physicist. He was selected in the 1880s as the first Burnett lecturer in Aberdeen resulting in the present volumes.

Condition

3 vols, sm. 8vo, orig. cloth, minor wear, spines darkened; light foxing to prelims. With bookplate of the Herbert Lister Bowman Library, Laboratory of Mineralogy, University of Oxford. Bowman (1874-1942) was Waynflete Professor of Mineralogy and Crystallography. Also, with the bookplates of James Walker (Christ Church) (1857-1929), demonstrator in the Clarendon Laboratory, Vice-President of the Physical Society.
