Text in Dutch. The plant genusCarex - Sedge, belonging to the Cyperaceae family, is the largest genus in our country. Sedges are important indicator species in wildlife management. On the other hand, they are difficult species for many botanists to identify. Firstly because there are so many of them, secondly because many species are similar and thirdly because hybrids between species are relatively common.

In this second part of the Nova Flora Neerlandica, the authors first provide an overview of the history of caricology in our country. Subsequently, all 73 species ever found in the wild in our country, including twelve introduced (adventive) species and one extinct species, are discussed in detail, as well as all hybrids known to date, 33 in total. The beautiful color photos give the species a face.

[Het plantengeslacht Carex - Zegge, behorende tot de familie der Cyperaceae, is het grootste genus in ons land. Zeggen zijn belangrijke indicatorsoorten in natuurbeheer. Aan de andere kant zijn het voor veel botanici lastige soorten om te determineren. Allereerst omdat het er zo veel zijn, ten tweede omdat veel soorten op elkaar lijken en ten derde omdat hybriden tussen soorten relatief veel voorkomen.

In dit tweede deel van de Nova Flora Neerlandica geven de auteurs eerst een overzicht van de geschiedenis der caricologie in ons land. Vervolgens worden alle 73 ooit in ons land in het wild gevonden soorten, inclusief twaalf ingevoerde (adventieve) soorten en één uitgestorven soort, uitvoerig behandeld, evenals alle tot nog toe bekende hybriden, 33 in totaal. De schitterende kleurenfoto’s geven de soorten een gezicht.
