Description:
Bulletin British Museum (Natural History) Historical Series 17(1). This is a facsimile and transcription of Charles duBois' (1656-1740) fascinating diary of entomological notes, observations and drawings of insects seen around Mitcham and London at the close of the seventeenth century. The manuscript is housed in the library of the Natural History Museum, London. The authorship of this remarkable diary was unknown until Les Jessop commenced his detailed research in the 1980s. The work incudes detailed research into the life of Charles duBois, a wealthy London merchant involved in the silk trade, who is also known as a botanist and horticulturalist.
