Monographs on Mineral Resources with Special Reference to the British Empire
- Publisher : John Murray
Description:
This series was published by the Imperial Institute in London. Founded in 1893, the Institute was initially managed by central government, but later management responsibilities were transferred a number of times. In 1916 management was transferred from the Board of Trade to the Colonial Office. A number of Technical Advisory Committees were set up to control the Imperial Institute, one called the Mineral Resources Committee, commissioned this series of monographs on the mineral resources of the Empire. Commencing in 1917, all the monographs were prepared under the direction of the Mineral Resources Committee with the assistance of the scientific and technical staff of the Imperial Institute. Each volume provided details and statistics of the sources of each mineral. The stated aim of this works was to give 'a general account of the occurrences and commercial utilisation of the more important minerals, particularly in the British Empire’.
A remarkable publication providing an overview of mineral resources within the British Empire, and also globally.
