Description:

Text Latin. First published as a thesis, University of Leipzig, June 1816, it was also published later the same year in this form by Leopold Voss (Bousquet, Literature Coleopterologica, 2016). The two engraved plates by the author, illustrate the 23 species described (Psephalinae, Staphylinidae), and are hand-coloured (it would appear that the earlier version had uncoloured plates). Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig (1793-1879) was a German botanist and ornithologist, director of the Dresden natural history museum and the Dresden botanical gardens.

Publisher's name to foot of title page has been partly covered by a printed slip, 'In Bibliopola V[ossii]'.

Bousquet, Litteratura Coleopterologica, p. 441; Hagen II, p. 70; Horn Schenkling 17922.
