Description:
Preface by Raoul de Saint-Arroman. Vicomte Pierre Marie Robert du Bourg de Bozas (1871-1902), was a French explorer. He proposed an expedition from the Red Sea to the Nile via southern Ethiopia and obtained sponsorship from the Muséum d'histoire naturelle and la Société de Géographie. The mission included geologists, naturalists, ethnographers and astronomers, seeking to cross Africa from the Red Sea to the Atlantic. Arriving in Djibouti, and travelling through Somalia, the mission collected many specimens during their travels. After an initial successful exploration of Abyssinia, De Bozas died of fever in Dungu (Congo). The expedition was considered a scientific success due to the geographic and ethnographic discoveries and the zoological specimens collected. Three folding colour maps illustrate the route of the expedition.
