Text Italian and German. 1782 account of the first expedition of the ill-fated Austrian attempt to colonise the Nicobar islands in the Indian ocean. Includes a facsmilie reproduction of Nicolaus Fontana's "Tagebuch der Reise des k.k. Schiffes Joseph und Theresia nach den neuen österreichischen Pflanzorten in Asia und Afrika" original translated by Joseph Eyerel (Leipzig, 1782). Introduction and short biography by G. Pilleri.

Orig. wrappers (173x100mm). Vg. Inscribed the editor to Prof. A.J. Cave. Cave was Professor of Anatomy, St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, 1946-1967 and President of the Linnean Society 1970-1973.
