Illustrated by Archibald Thorburn. Thomas Littleton Powys, 4th Baron Lilford (1833-1896) was one of the founders of the British Ornithologists' Union in 1858 and its president from 1867 until his death. He wrote several works on birds, including Notes on the Birds of Northamptonshire and Neighbourhood (1895) and Coloured Figures of the Birds of the British Islands (1885-1897), which was completed by Osbert Salvin after Lilford's death.

4to, orig. blue cloth, gt, lightly rubbed, minor wear to extremities and rear joint, light bump to corner, teg. Occasional light foxing. Vg.
