The complete catalogue was published in 7 volumes with the intention of providing 'a complete list of the specimens of Dipterous Insects cotained in the collection of the British Museum, indicating at the same time the peculiarities of each, as regards variations of character, locality, and the source from whence it has been derived.' These final three parts contain revisions of the following families with a description of the species added since Parts I-IV were printed: V: Stratiomidae, Xylophagidae and Tabanidae; VI: Acroceridae, Asilidae (part); VII: Asilidae (concluded).
