Description:

Premier and Deuxième semestre, 6th December 1884 - 28th December 1885. Vol. 13, complete.

From 1873 to 1914, each volume of La Nature was issued in parts, comprising two half-yearly volumes, the first commencing at the beginning of December, the second with the first issue in June.

Gaston Tissandier (1843-1899) was a French chemist, meteorologist and balloonist. He founded and edited the scientific magazine La Nature, a French language magazine which aimed to popularize science, with articles ranging from natural history, military developments, medicine, geology etc. Gaston’s brother Albert Tissandier (1839-1906) an architect and archaeologist, was a major contributor, supplying many articles and illustrations. The journal is noted for its fine wood engravings, many full-page, by the French draftsman, engraver and illustrator Louis Poyet (1846-1913). Other illustrators included Auguste Tilly (1840-1898).
