From 1873 to 1914, each volume of La Nature was issued in parts, comprising two half-yearly volumes, the first commencing at the beginning of December, the second with the first issue in June.
Gaston Tissandier (1843-1899) was a French chemist, meteorologist and balloonist. He founded and edited the scientific magazine La Nature, a French language magazine which aimed to popularize science, with articles ranging from natural history, military developments, medicine, geology, etc. Gaston’s brother Albert Tissandier (1839-1906) an architect and archaeologist, was a major contributor, supplying many articles and illustrations. The journal is noted for its fine wood engravings, many full-page.

2 vols, imp. 8vo, cont. qtr leather, scuffed, marbled boards. Withdrawn from an institutional library: stamps of Vilmorin-Andrieux & Cie, a French seed company, and the Natural History Museum, London. Good.
