Revision of the 1978 Key by Clive Pinder (FBA SP 37). Since 1978, some 5-6 new species of Chironomidae have been added to the checklist of Britain and Ireland each year. The authors have managed to keep abreast of this unusually rapid rate of change, including recent changes in nomenclature, This revised set of keys, updated to late 2005, identifies males of 587 species (compared with 439 species in the 1978 key)
