Orchid portraits by Susan Sex, accompanying text by Brendan Sayers. Limited edition of 770 numbered copies, signed by artist and author (this copy - no. 394). This magnificent limited edition grew out of a set of 35 beautiful watercolours by Susan Sex recording Ireland's orchid flora. The plate notes for each plate includes scientific and common names (English and Irish), description and details of variability, life cycle, habitat and conservation status, augmented with notable and anecdotal points about the plants. Each of the twenty-eight species growing in Ireland is included along with their distinct varieties and subspecies.

Condition

Folio (490x338mm), cloth-backed pictorial paper-covered boards, patterned endpapers, in matching publisher’s maroon cloth slipcase (slightly faded along fore-edge). A fine copy.
