Pars I. Fasc. I (Carabiei, Hydrocanthari, Gyrini et Staphylinii). Fasc. II (Buprestides, Elaterides, etc.); Pars II (Scarabaeides). [Horn-Schenkling: 1744]. Carl Heinrich Boheman, (1796 –1868) was a Swedish soldier and coleopterist, He joined the army aged 17 and retired, with the rank of captain, at 48. His army service included participating in the invasion of Norway in 1814. In the 1840s he accepted a position in the Department of Entomology of the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm, where he deposited his collection. Insecta Caffraria annis 1838-1845, contains Latin descriptions of the Coleoptera collected by Johan August Wahlberg (1810–1856) in the region of Kaffraria, present-day South Africa, during the years 1838–1845.
Condition
8vo, recent antique style half calf, spine with raised bands, gilt dec., speckled boards. Orig. printed wrappers retained (some repaired). Small ink ownership stamp to title page. Some occasional spotting; old water stain to bottom corner in a few places; dedication leaf to Pars II, with top blank corner cut away. Pages largely unopened. bookplate of Reinhold Charpentier. Vg.
