Description:
The most comprehensive examination of nature printing to date. Featuring more than 200 full-colour examples, the author traces the development of this process and its myriad applications.
Nature printing relies on the surfaces of natural objects to render prints of those objects, ranging from flowers, to butterflies and fish. Originating in the 13th century with very simple impressions taken from leaves and fruit, by the 17th and 18th centuries nature printing had developed into a serious scientific process of reproducing plants, resulting in detailed catalogues made by and for botanists. During the 19th century the technique the technique drew on new photographic technology with further printmaking technologies fueling a revival later in the 20th century.
