Bernardino da Ucria (1739-1796) was a Franciscan friar with an interest in botany and the Linnean system of classification. He was appointed demonstrator in botany at the University of Palermo in which capacity he was involved in the establishment of the Palermo Botanic Garden. This work comprises a catalogue of plants in the Botanic Garden, arranged according to the Linnaean system, with diagnoses of genera and species, and with notes on their wild origins in Sicily and their medicinal uses.
