Description:
Rare important early Russian entomological journal. Contains papers on insects and arachnids mainly in French or German. Some fine hand-coloured engraved plates in the early volumes.
Condition
41 vols in 33, roy. 8vo, Vols. 1-38, 40 & 41 finely bound in cont. half morocco, a few scuffs, minor rubbing, raised bands to spines, marbled edges and endpapers; Vol. 42 pts 1-3, bound in buckram. Some foxing, occasional browning. From an institutional library with neat withdrawn stamps. Originally from the library of Lord Walsingham - Thomas de Grey, 6th Baron Walsingham (1843-1919), with his monogram to the spines; some volumes also bear his bookplate. Walsingham was a Conservative politician and an amateur lepidopterist. His collection of c. 260,000 specimens was one of the most important ever made and now forms part of the Natural History Museum collections.
