Description:
Text French. This book is entirely devoted to the immature stages (eggs, caterpillars and pupae) of the Cameroonian representatives of a large group of diurnal butterflies, the Limenitinae (Nymphalidae), distributed mainly in the tropics.
Includes description of 133 life cycles, most of which have not previously been described. The first part contains morphological and biological information on the immature stages necessary for the understanding of the descriptions which will follow. It also shows how the early stages can provide significant information on the different groups constituting the Limenitinae and their evolutionary relationships. In some of these groups, innovative morphological and / or biological characters have evolved, which make it easier to separate them rather than the characters of the adults
The second part contaijnns description of the life cycles of each of the 133 species where this information is available from breeding. Each description includes colour photographs of the eggs, caterpillars and pupae, taken in their natural environment. In total, 1,285 photographs are included in the species descriptions.Species accounts include descriptions of characters which separate the species and notes on behaviour. Foodplant information is also given where known.
