Description:

Text Chinese, names in Latin. This book includes an overview of the Sphingidae family, an overview of the history of taxonomic research, juvenile morphological characteristics, adult morphological characteristics, pollination and feeding behavior of adults, natural enemies of adults, and a display of all species of the Sphingidae family in China. This book covers a wide range of knowledge about the Sphingidae family, including an introduction to the juvenile stage, descriptions of the structure of each part of the body, behaviour, relationships with plant pollination, natural enemies and defense strategies, etc. Hawk moths are Lepidoptera insects that are more commonly encountered in nighttime natural observations. Because of their peculiar appearance, many species have bright colours and patterns, and are large in size, they are a group that is easy for researchers and enthusiasts to contact and observe. At the same time, for many interdisciplinary topics, hawk moths are also very good research material.

China currently has 4 subfamilies, 71 genera and 277 species of Sphingidae insects. The author of this book has combined his team's many years of investigation and research records with the collection and inspection of specimens from many domestic colleges and universities to include all the Sphingidae species currently recorded in China. Each type includes a list, a scientific name list, an introduction to the characteristics of each family/subfamily/species/subspecies and species description, a specimen plate of Sphingidae species in China (100% species included), an ecological photo plate (more than 50% species included), literature, acknowledgments, etc. This book uses the most concise text with beautiful ecological photos and specimen photos. It is easy to understand and has a strong guiding role in the viewing of moths in a wide range of natural activities. It also provides relatively comprehensive reference materials for future research on Sphingidae in China.
