Ghana's other Gold: Butterflies of the Ghanaian rainforest (DVD)
- Publisher : CineButterflies
Description:
This is a film about butterflies of the West African rainforest, photographed entirely in one of its smaller but fascinating countries, Ghana, once famous for its gold, but increasingly on the map for its growing concern for its wildlife and forest reserves.
For many reasons the butterflies of the Afro-tropical Region attract less attention and fewer visitors than Latin America or even Asia. Nonetheless Ghana, in the west of the central African rainforest belt, has a plentiful supply of wonderful species and many attractive good quality locations in which to find them This all adds up to an excellent experience for the butterfly watcher exploring the Region for the first time.
Edited from material captured on (the then newly developed) Hi-8 analogue video from a short visit to Ghana in 1996, the film was first published in VHS format in 1997. Now, in 2015, it is being re-issued as a DVD, with only slight alterations, as a contribution to the memory of Torben Larsen whose untimely death occurred in May 2015. He was not just a great entomologist, but a great contributor to our understanding of the butterflies of Africa. Durantion 38 mins.
