Description:
First edition. Stephen Troyte Dunn (1868-1938) worked at the Botanic Gardens, Kew (he compiled the second supplement to Index Kewensis, issued 1904-05). He was superindendant at the Department of Botany and Forestry, Hong Kong between 1903 and 1910, during which time he carried out a number of collecting expeditions in Asia. He also spent some time in America. He ended his career back at the Kew herbarium, retiring in 1928.

Condition
Sm. 8vo, orig. cloth, rubbed/worn, faint staining to rear board. Small stain to top margin of prelims, several small ink spots to fore edge. Author's presentation inscription, 'Maud Thornton from the Author', and added later, probably also in the author's hand, 'afterward Maud Dunn' (his first wife, whom he married in 1901), 'Albury 1921, August' and '5 Christchurch Road E. Sheen, S.W.14 with Eila Dunn' (his second wife). Ink and pencil annotations to the text in the same hand, mostly dated 1921, noting locations and other field information. One is initialled S.T.D. A very interesting association copy.
