Description:
In 1926 a joint expedition was arranged by the British Museum (Natural History) and the Bacteriological Institute of the National Department of Hygiene, Argentina, with the aim of collecting insects from the Southern Andes, which it was hoped would provide new evidence concerning animal distribution in the southern hemisphere. The team included F.W. Edwards and Raymond C. Shannon together with their wives. They collected 40,000 insect specimens, 30,000 of which were diptera.
