In the Preface Armytage states, ‘It occurred to us that it would not be a bad idea to look at Darwin’s works and the bible and to endeavour to form our own opinion about them’. Having read The Origin of Species and ‘dipped into’ The Descent of Man, the author provides comparisons with the bible and draws conclusions, noting, ‘No doubt many will consider it a kind of blasphemy in that we have dared to criticise Darwin’.

8vo, orig. cloth, worn, a little marked, split to foot of rear joint. Endpapers foxed, some marginal browning. Good.
