4to, orig. brown cloth, neatly rebacked with original backstrip retained. Water stain to rear cover. Contents clean. Good. Author's inscription, 'E.T. Newton from Dr G.J. Hinde 1884'. Edwin Tulley Newton FRS FGS FZS (1840-1930) was a British paleontologist, assistant to Thomas Henry Huxley (then naturlist to the Geological Survey) from 1865. From 1882 to 1905 he was paleontologist to the Geological Survey. He was president of the Geologists' Association 1896-1898 and president of the Palaeontographical Society 1921-1928.
