Condition

The annotated, working copy of Bernard d'Abrera (1940-2017), used during the preparation of his revised edition of Butterflies of the Afrotropical Region (3 vols, 1997-2009). D'Abrera states in the Preface to Vol. 1 of this work that the revision was based largely on this catalogue (Carcasson's African Butterflies). Copiously annotated and highlighted with d'Abrera's comments, corrections and notes made during the preparation and photography of museum specimens for the revised edition of his work. Loosely inserted are a few photographs, manuscript notes and typed letters. A compliments slip pasted to the Dedication page bears an inscription, signed by the three editors, 'To Bernard, a poor return on your generosity over the years'. A unique copy, but in poor condition, shaken and slack, joints/spine crudely repaired with British Museum (Natural History) tape, rear hinge broken, small piece cropped from lower blank margin of final leaf.
