Text French. A short introduction gives the characteristics of the Mediterranean environment in France, the different biotopes, with representative photographs. The main part of the book is divided into six periods of the year and gives information of the times of appearance of the adults of 435 butterflies and macro-moths (the majority of species found in the Mediterranean region of France) and a selection of 135 species of micro-moths, empahsising typical, infrequent or newly discovered species. This information is presented in 64 illustrated synoptic tables with information on the biogeographical affiliation, periods of emergence, larval host plant and locality for each species. The text discusses aspects of speciation, biogeography, protection, etc. A 10-page species checklist summarises the information.
