Description:
This book is intended to help young people (ages 7-10), especially those living in built-up areas, to explore the countryside and discover these beautiful flying insects. The new guide describes 12 sites across Wiltshire which children can visit to find one butterfly species each month from April to September. Hence a Butterfly Summer. The author, Sarah Gregory, states 'Having worked in cities I met families who had no opportunity to enjoy the countryside. I hope we can make it easier for all children to explore rural Wiltshire'. The booklet is amply illustrated with photographs, maps, landscape drawings and illustrations of the butterflies, with notes for adults about visiting each site. Wiltshire is very fortunate to have 45 of the 59 species of British butterflies. However, work by Butterfly Conservation shows that 80% of butterfly species in the UK have declined since the 1970s.
