Description:

The Sundarbans, globally known as the home of the Royal Bengal Tigers, also is the home to an assortment of butterfly species. However, there is not much information available on butterflies of the Sundarbans. Under the umbrella of the Management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forests for Biodiversity Conservation and Increased Adaptation to Climate Change Project (SMP) in collaboration with Jiban Bikash Karjocrom (JBK), a survey with a holistic approach to learning about this colorful insect living in this tropical mangrove forest was carried out. This book presents the results of the 16-month survey.

Features a description of 112 species of butterflies from 5 families on 112 color plates. More than 250 colour photographs of butterflies with ventral and dorsal views have been placed. The manuscript also exhibits 26 species of host plants for butterflies in the Sundarbans on 13 more plates. Tie description of species includes Scientific Name, Synonym(s), Wingspan, Flight Period in the Sundarbans, IUCN Bangladesh Status, IUCN Global Status, General Description, Country Distribution, Global Distribution, Larval Host Plant, Flight Pattern and Habitat. In addition, for the first time, a report on the butterfly population of the study areas and impact on seasonal climate change on butterfly numbers has been incorporated in this book. The book is a comprehensive chronicle of more than a hundred native Sundarbans butterfly species with a new country record and 53 new sightings for the Sundarbans biosphere.
